A scholar and a boatman narrative in English:

Once a scholar was heading to a destination by water. The boatman set sail in his boat and the boat was sailing on effortlessly. A nice wind was blowing. There were the whispering sounds of water and hundreds of birds were circling above. The scholar was in a pleasant mood. He was immensely pleased of his learning. He asked the boatman if he understood why the sun rises in the east and sets in the west.

The boatman said that he is only a very basic boatman. He did not know that much. With a snigger,the scholar reminded the boatman that one fourth of his life was spoiled.The boatman had nothing to say except look at the professor. However, the boat kept plying on and the scholar was loving the environment. The boatman was carrying on with his task being possessed by a sensation of inadequacy. After a time, the scholar questioned again if the boatman had read geography.

The boatman gently answered that he had never read any book much alone geography. The scholar then informed him that half of his life was spoiled. This time too the boat guy remained mute. Then the sky got blanketed with heavy clouds.

Soon a fierce storm rose. There were large waves in the river. The boat was moving dramatically. The scholar got terribly terrified. He did not know what to do. His face grew pallid. The boatman questioned him if he knew how to swim. The scholar answered in the negative. The boatman then informed him that the entire of his life was spoiled since he was going to die.
